EM, or E.M. is the era in which we currently live and is the standard calendar for the civilized world. EM reckoning began 248 years ago. It was the signing of Atla’s Provincial Constitution of Freedom and the formation of the Trinity Trade Council that set the stage for a new calendar. Agreed upon by 60% of the world’s population (nearly three quarters of the civilized world), the creation of a new calendar signaled the beginning of the age of Magi-Tech and advanced world trade, and was thus known as the Magi Revolution.
While dates have changed from what they once were (typically based off of the rise of various civilizations), the names of the months, dates for the change of seasons and date for New Year have remained the same. This was done in an attempt to preserve and embrace the cumulative advances of humanity over the past 30,000 years.
It is important to note that many different calendars existed before the Magi Revolution. However, for continuity and ease of understanding, dates prior to the Revolution are all reckoned backwards beginning with 1PM. The only time this rule is ignored is when specific historical accounts depend upon or are specifically related to a specific calendar system.
