Rules and Guidelines
It’s time for Velwythe.com’s first ever FanFiction Contest. This is a chance for you, the reader, to take part in shaping the world of Velwythe and the next book directly. The winning submission will appear in the EBook version of Volume two, due out in 2012 (so you better get writing). The submission deadline is May 1st, 2012 (and I will mention that again because it is very important).
Look over the rules and guidelines below and get ready to write. I’m not going to give you any topical ideas, as I want this first contest to be entirely up to you. But remember, anything you create or add to the world can change what happens in the future Velwythe books, so if you’re the cause and effect type, go ahead and add something that Vaan and Duncan might see or do.
By submitting your work you agree to the following guidelines and rules:
-Submissions must be in one of the following formats: RTF, word 97-2003, word 2007, Plain text
-Submissions must be sent by email to: live@velwythe.com
-In your email body you must write out a sentence detailing that you understand, agree and accept the terms of the submission. You must also sign your name and the date at the bottom of the email in a font other than Arial or Times New Roman
-To be eligible for acceptance you must be 18 years or older, or have a parent/guardian’s permission. If you are under 18 you must have proof of your parent/guardian’s permission
-Submissions must be no longer than 5,000 words (though shorter is preferred)
-Only one piece may be submitted per person
-The deadline is May 1st, 2012
-Works can be collaborative and all authors will be mentioned and represented in the EBook. Should a work be collaborative, the work counts as one work for each person. This means you cannot enter your own story as well as work on a joint project with others
-All contributors/authors must be acknowledged. Failure to do so will get your submission thrown into the digital trash bin where it will be ferociously deleted
-Stories must take place in the world of Velwythe and can be set in any time period
-Stories may NOT involve the following characters: Vaan, Duncan or Sam
-All information including dates, character names, events and technology cannot be altered from what is already in Resurrection of the Mind, as well as the Velwiki, newspaper articles etc. This means you can’t change FreePort City’s name to Waterville or something similar (or dissimilar, you get the idea)
-Use creativity and freedom in your style and approach to writing. However, keep in mind that extremely vulgar, profane or racially insensitive material will likely not be chosen as a winning piece. Use your own judgment in determining what is acceptable and what is not
-Please get creative with your formatting and structure (as long as it adds to the story). But note that the conversion to EBook might require alterations to your format that will drastically change its appearance. Again, use your best judgment
-No more than three (3) pictures will be published. If you submit more we reserve the right to choose which are published
-Images are subject to the same rules as the stories and Velwythe.com in general in regards to appropriate content
-Works may be submitted to various third party affiliates, companies and individuals that deal with Velwythe.com, Bonn Turkington or Two Roads Press LLC
-Works may be published on Velwythe.com before May 1st.
-Works will be voted upon by readers and users of Velwythe and Velwythe.com. You acknowledge, by submitting, that you are willing to let others vote on the quality of your work.
When you are ready to submit your work please email the work to live@velwythe.com Please attach your work in one of the files mentioned above, as well as provide the raw text in the email body. By emailing your piece to live@velwythe.com (by May 1st, 2012) you acknowledge and accept that Velwythe.com and Bonn Turkington become the sole owners of the material you provide. You are not entitled to any of the revenue, proceeds, income etc generated in part or whole by the work you submit. You will be credited with the creation of the work in the EBook, Velwythe.com and any other medium we see fit.
